Railing Experts is the railing sub for home builders, deck builders, general contractors, restoration companies and strata managers across the Lower Mainland. We measure, supply and install aluminum picket railings, glass railings, stair railings, handrails, privacy screens and gates – with our own crew, out of our shop in Surrey.

Railings are usually one of the last trades on site, and the one that holds up an occupancy or a final inspection. Our job is to not be that trade: we book in around your schedule, show up when we say we will, and leave the site clean.

What we do for builders

• Supply and install – deck, balcony, stair and landing guards, handrails, privacy screens and aluminum gates, for single-family, multi-family and restoration projects.
• Supply only – if your own crew installs, our sister company Mountwest Building Supplies supplies the same railing systems, glass and hardware, cut to your measurements.
• Balcony restoration and strata replacements – we work as the railing and privacy-screen subcontractor on building envelope and balcony restoration jobs, and replace old railings for strata corporations.
• Interior glass and stair railings – glass stair guards and handrails for new homes and renovations.

Specs that get you through inspection

• Tested systems. Our aluminum railing systems were load-tested by Intertek in 2026.
• Built to the BC Building Code. Standard guard height is 1070 mm (42"), with taller guards available, and picket spacing that stops a 100 mm sphere from passing through.
• Materials. 6063-T6 aluminum extrusions, powder-coated to AAMA 2604 (AAMA 2605 available). Welded components come from a CSA W47.2 certified fabricator.
• Paperwork. Shop drawings and engineer's letters are available for permit, multi-family and commercial jobs.
• Glass. Tempered or laminated safety glass, including 12 mm glass for frameless and post-less designs.

Builder FAQs

Do you work as a subcontractor on larger or multi-family projects?
Yes. We work as the railing and privacy-screen subcontractor for general contractors and restoration companies, and we can provide shop drawings and engineer's letters where the project needs them.

Can I buy railings and install them with my own crew?
Yes. Our sister company, Mountwest Building Supplies in Surrey, sells the same aluminum railing systems, glass and hardware for contractor installation.

What height do railings need to be in BC?
On houses, guards generally need to be at least 900 mm (36") high where the walking surface is 1.8 m or less above the ground, and 1070 mm (42") above that. Multi-family and commercial buildings generally need 1070 mm. Openings must not let a 100 mm sphere pass through.

How soon can you get on site?
Most residential jobs are installed within a week of go-ahead. Larger projects and custom glass are scheduled around fabrication time, which we confirm when we quote.
