Railings we install in the Tri-Cities

  • Glass railings – tempered glass in black or white aluminum frames, top-mount or fascia-mount, for decks that look out over the trees, the inlet or the valley.
  • Interior glass railings – glass for staircases, landings and open lofts.
  • Aluminum picket railings – powder-coated black, white or custom colours for decks, porches and stairs. No painting, no rot.
  • Stair railings and handrails – tall exterior stairs on sloped lots, front steps and side-yard handrails.
  • Privacy screens – frosted glass panels between decks and neighbours, common on newer homes built close together.

Coquitlam and Port Moody railing FAQs

How high does my deck or stair railing need to be?
Under the BC Building Code, guards on a house generally need to be at least 36" (900 mm) high where the deck is 5'11" (1.8 m) or less above the ground, and 42" (1070 mm) when it's higher – which covers many raised decks on sloped Burke Mountain, Westwood Plateau and Heritage Woods lots. Openings must be small enough that a 4" (100 mm) sphere can't pass through.

Do I need a permit to replace my railing?
Coquitlam and Port Moody each have their own building department. Replacing an existing railing usually doesn't need a permit, but new decks and major changes often do, so check with your city. We'll supply the railing details your permit needs.

Can you put glass on a vinyl deck without leaks?
Yes. Many newer decks here are vinyl-membrane. We can fascia-mount the railing on the edge of the deck so no posts go through the membrane, or top-mount with sealed post bases.

How long does installation take?
Once materials are ready, most homes are installed in one or two days. Custom-cut glass adds time for fabrication after we measure.
