Railings for Squamish, Whistler, Bowen & Gambier Island and the BC Interior
We bring the crew and the materials – ferry, highway or barge
Railing Experts is based in Surrey, but a growing share of our work is outside the Lower Mainland. In the past year our crew installed glass and aluminum railings in Squamish, Whistler, Bowen Island and Gambier Island, and as far as Merritt and Osoyoos in the BC Interior and Victoria on Vancouver Island.
Out-of-town jobs are different. There's no running back to the shop for a missing part, and on the islands every trip depends on a ferry or water taxi. We plan each remote job so it's measured once, built complete in our shop, and installed in one trip.

Where we work outside the Lower Mainland
- Sea to Sky – Squamish and Whistler, plus Britannia Beach and Pemberton on request.
- Howe Sound islands – Bowen Island and Gambier Island, including water-access properties.
- Sunshine Coast – Gibsons, Sechelt and up the coast, via the Horseshoe Bay ferry.
- BC Interior – Merritt, the Okanagan and Osoyoos.
- Vancouver Island – Victoria and area, for the right project.
Recent out-of-town projects
Bowen Island – frameless glass on an ocean-view deck. Frameless-look glass railing around a large concrete deck high above Howe Sound, so nothing blocks the water and mountain view. We measured each panel on site and had the glass cut to fit.
Bowen Island – glass deck railing. Glass railing on a new deck looking out over the water and the treed shoreline.
Gambier Island – cabin deck railings. Railings around the wraparound deck of a new hillside home on Gambier, with a view down Howe Sound. Everything went over by water, so the job was packed complete before we left.
Whistler – glass deck railing. Black-framed glass railing on a deck facing the forest.
Squamish – glass walkway railing and stair handrails. Glass railing along an exterior walkway for a local contractor, and black aluminum handrails on the exterior stairs of a second Squamish home.
Merritt – black picket deck and stair railing. Black aluminum picket railing around a covered deck with a view across the valley, and down the stairs to the yard.
Osoyoos – glass on spigots and glass balconies. Glass railing on stainless spigots around a covered patio, plus glass balcony railings on the upper level.
Victoria – frosted glass gate. A frosted glass and aluminum gate and fence panels closing off a driveway courtyard.

How a remote railing job works
- Photos and plans first. Send us photos, rough measurements or drawings and we'll give you a budget price before anyone travels.
- One site measure. We measure on site (or work from your builder's confirmed dimensions) and order glass cut to fit.
- Built complete in our shop. Posts, rails, glass and hardware are prepared and checked in Surrey, so nothing is missing on install day.
- One install trip. Our own crew travels with everything needed. Travel, ferry and accommodation are quoted up front – no surprises on the invoice.
Why owners and builders outside the city use Railing Experts
- Our own installers. The crew that measures your job is the crew that installs it – no subcontractors.
- Built to BC Building Code. Our aluminum railing systems are tested by Intertek, and every railing is installed to the height and opening rules in the BC Building Code.
- Made for weather. Powder-coated aluminum and tempered glass don't rot or need painting – important on salt-air island decks and in snow country.
- Over 10 years in BC, working for homeowners, general contractors, deck builders and strata buildings.

Out-of-town railing FAQs
Do you charge extra to travel?
Yes – travel time, ferry fares and, for longer trips, accommodation are added to the quote. We list them separately so you can see exactly what they are. Grouping work (a deck plus stairs, or two homes in the same area) spreads the cost.
Can you work on water-access islands?
Yes. We've installed on Bowen and Gambier, including water-access properties. Let us know how the site is accessed when you ask for a quote.
How high does my deck railing need to be?
Under the BC Building Code, guards on a house generally need to be at least 36" (900 mm) high where the deck is 5'11" (1.8 m) or less above the ground, and 42" (1070 mm) when it's higher. Openings must be small enough that a 4" (100 mm) sphere can't pass through. Your local municipality or regional district handles permits.
How long does installation take?
Most homes are installed in one or two days on site. Custom-cut glass adds time for fabrication after we measure, so book early for summer cabin projects.

Neil and his crew did a great job. He’s customer service was amazing and delivered exactly what he promised on time and on budget. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to get railings put up.
Alex

We asked Neil to install Railings on our deck, and refer to our family members. His price is fair, and service is excellent! Highly recommended to those who will need railing for either renovations or new houses.
Greg schmor

Neil is a great communicator and does a fast clean install. The railings look great. Can’t say enough good things about how he does buisness and the quality of his workmanship. That is definately a rare thing these days. I won’t go anywhere else for railings in the future. Highly recommend him.
Jen

Neil and all the installers had incredible customer service. The installers were clean and efficient and Neil was great to work with. Anytime I contacted Neil he always responded in a quick manner including helping me out with extenuating circumstances in regards to city inspections. For that I am really grateful and I would highly recommend The Railing Experts for your projects as they went above and beyond to stand by their product. Thank You!
